ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 FC Goa: 3 talking points from Juan Ferrando’s bittersweet meeting with former club

ATK Mohun Bagan defeated FC Goa 2-1 in the ISL to continue their winning ways under new manager Juan Ferrando. Here are the three key talking points from the game.

Surreal for FC Goa fans

Juan Ferrando left as the replacement for Antonio Habas with little notice, and faced his former club in his second game in charge. The manager got the better of his former team, and it was bittersweet for him, as he confirmed in his post match statement.

Roy Krishna returns to outfield scoring

The last time Roy Krishna scored a non-penalty goal for ATK Mohun Bagan was a month ago, in the 3-0 Kolkata derby win against SC East Bengal. Since then, Krishna has been silenced alongside the Mariners themselves.

But in the game against Goa, the Fijian showed up with a right-footed strike to earn all three points for his team.

ATK Mohun Bagan back on track

With two consecutive wins, ATK Mohun Bagan are back in the top four. They haven’t been the best defensively, conceding three goals in two games, but have managed to earn three points, which is ultimately all that matters.

Juan Ferrando has insisted that his players need to keep improving in the games to come, and rightfully so. But for now, they can be happy with the fact that they might finish 2021 in third place, and certainly within the top four.

On the other side of the table, Goa’s woes continue in ‘8’s. They are in eighth place, and have 8 points from just as many games. They will face Kerala Blasters in the first game of the new year.
