The ASUS ROG Ally X is the highly anticipated upgrade to the popular ROG Ally handheld gaming PC. With rumors swirling about its specs, gamers are eager to see if it lives up to the hype.

This article dives deep into the leaked details of the ROG Ally X, analyzing its potential improvements and whether it’s worth the upgrade for existing ROG Ally owners.

Familiar Design, New Color Scheme

Early reports suggest the ROG Ally X retains the original Ally’s design, including the 7-inch 1080p 120Hz display, button layout, and overall build. However, a sleek all-black color scheme replaces the white exterior, offering a more premium look.

The biggest ergonomic improvement lies in the revised grips. ASUS has reportedly shrunk the back buttons and softened the edges, potentially enhancing comfort during extended gaming sessions. The increased weight due to a larger battery is another noticeable change.

Focus on Internal Power: ROG Ally X

While the exterior remains largely unchanged, the heart of the ROG Ally X boasts significant upgrades. Leaks point towards a powerful AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, the same processor as the original Ally. However, the real game-changer comes with the memory.

The ROG Ally X is rumored to pack a whopping 24GB of LPDDR5X-7500 memory, exceeding most competitors. This translates to smoother multitasking, better performance in demanding games, and the ability to allocate more system memory for improved graphics processing.

Storage Gets a Boost

Storage capacity also receives a significant bump. The ROG Ally X is expected to come with a base storage option of 1TB SSD, double the capacity of the original Ally. This caters to gamers who crave a vast library of games on the go.

Battery Life: A Potential Concern

Battery life remains a question mark. While some sources claim up to 8 hours of playtime, others suggest it might be closer to 7 hours. This duration is decent for a handheld gaming PC, but considering the increased power demands of the upgraded hardware, it might fall short for some users.

Price and Availability

The ROG Ally X is expected to retail for $799, a $100 premium over the standard ROG Ally. This price hike reflects the improved internals but might deter some budget-conscious gamers. An official release date hasn’t been confirmed, but rumors point towards an unveiling on June 2nd, 2024.

Upgrade or Wait?

The decision to upgrade to the ROG Ally X depends on your needs. If you’re content with your current ROG Ally and prioritize portability over raw power, then an upgrade might not be necessary.

However, for those seeking top-tier performance, increased storage, and a more comfortable grip, the ROG Ally X could be a compelling option.

Here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide:

Upgrade for Gamers who crave the best possible performance, ample storage space, and improved ergonomics. Stick with the original ROG Ally if You prioritize portability, are satisfied with current performance, or are on a tighter budget. Ultimately, waiting for official confirmation of specs, price, and battery life is wise before making a decision.
