Asian Games 2026: Shooters Fire and a Historic MMA Bronze Lift India to Six Medals

Some days at the Asian Games feel like a slow build. Day 2 for India was a burst of medals, including one that made history.

Shooters and a debutant in mixed martial arts pushed India’s tally to six. Here’s the full recap, and you can follow more sports coverage on TechnoSports.

Asian Games Day 2 Medal Haul

Teenager Dhillon Steals the Show

Himanshu Dhillon was the story of the day. The teenager scored 252.4 to take silver behind China’s Lihao Sheng, who finished on 254.2. Former world champion Rudrankksh Patil, who had led at stages of the final, took bronze.

Their individual medals came barely an hour after the same duo, with Parth Mane, won team silver. That took India’s shooting tally to five, after two silvers on Sunday.

A First for Indian MMA

The sixth medal came from Suchika Tariyal, who won bronze in the women’s traditional 60kg MMA event. It’s India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the discipline, which is making its debut at the Asian Games 2026. She lost her semifinal to Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon but still made the podium.

More Wins Around the Venues

India had a strong day beyond the medals:

• Kabaddi: beat Japan 49-24 in the men’s Group A match
• Women’s hockey: thrashed Indonesia 17-1
• Women’s table tennis: beat Pakistan 3-0
• Boxing: Sumit won 5-0 over Thailand’s Bunjong Sinsiri in the 70kg Round of 32
• Badminton: beat Bangladesh 3-0 in the men’s team opener
• Swimming: Srihari Nataraj qualified for the men’s 50m backstroke final

It wasn’t all good news. India lost to South Korea and the Philippines in soft tennis mixed doubles and fell to Japan in sepaktakraw.
