Match Preview
Arsenal enter this fixture as newly-crowned Premier League champions, having ended a 22-year wait for the title in the 2025/26 season — a landmark achievement that adds real weight to this curtain-raiser. Manchester City, meanwhile, arrive fresh off FA Cup success and are entering a new era following the end of the Pep Guardiola tenure, with a new manager reportedly set to take charge for the upcoming campaign.
This fixture also continues one of English football’s most competitive modern rivalries. Arsenal and City fought closely for the Premier League title across the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, with City prevailing both times before Arsenal turned the tables last season. Their most recent Premier League meeting in April 2026 saw City edge a narrow 2-1 win, meaning both sides will have plenty of recent form to draw motivation from. The Community Shield has long served as an early-season form guide, even if it carries no direct bearing on the league table.
Prediction
With Arsenal riding the confidence of a title-winning campaign and Manchester City adjusting to a new managerial setup, expect a closely contested match that could go either way. Arsenal’s recent momentum gives them a slight edge on paper, but City’s squad depth and pedigree in cup finals make them a dangerous opponent regardless of transition. A tight affair, potentially decided by fine margins or penalties, looks like the most realistic outcome.
How to Watch
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK, with international broadcast partners covering the fixture depending on your region.
