Arsenal Exploring Move to Sign Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid

One of the most explosive transfer stories of the summer has arrived. Arsenal are exploring a move to sign Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior this summer, if the player doesn’t extend his contract to stay where he is. Vini Jr. is one of multiple candidates for Arsenal to improve their attack, and the interest is currently at an early stage, with no club-to-club talks having yet taken place. However, the idea has been approved at all levels within Arsenal, so it’s clearly one everyone is ready to push for if possible.

Who is Vinicius Junior?

Vinícius José Paixão de Oliveira Júnior, born 12 July 2000 in São Gonçalo, Brazil, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a forward for La Liga club Real Madrid and the Brazil national team. Considered one of the best players in the world, he is known for his pace, technique and dribbling ability.

Born in São Gonçalo, Vinícius began his professional career at Flamengo, where he made his senior debut in 2017, at age 16. A few weeks later, Vinícius was the subject of a transfer to La Liga club Real Madrid, for whom he signed in a £38 million deal, which was a national record for a player under 18.

With over 300 appearances and more than 200 goal involvements for Real Madrid, he has already won three La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions Leagues, scoring in both European finals.

Vinícius led Real Madrid as captain for the first time in a February 2025 game against Real Sociedad — a powerful statement of trust from the club and a defining moment in his journey.

Real Madrid Career Stats (La Liga)

2025/26 Season in Review

Vinicius netted 22 times across all competitions during the 2025/26 season, even as Real Madrid endured a second successive year without silverware, finishing runners-up in La Liga, trailing Barcelona by eight points.

He had another strong season in 2025/26, scoring 22 goals for Real Madrid and assisting another 14. Those stats include three goal contributions in three Champions League fixtures.

At the 2026 World Cup, he featured in every one of Brazil’s five fixtures at the tournament, finding the net on four occasions before Carlo Ancelotti’s side were knocked out by Norway at the last-16 stage.

The Contract Situation: Why Arsenal Have Hope

The Brazil international has entered the final year of his current deal, with contract discussions yet to produce an agreement. Real Madrid and Vinicius have been in contract negotiations for more than 18 months, and discussions have resumed. The Spanish club has presented new terms, but although Vinicius is open to renewing, an agreement has not been reached.

According to sources, Madrid are not changing their latest offer and have informed the player’s representatives it will not be improved. Real Madrid are unwilling to risk him leaving on a free transfer in 2027, meaning a sale would be approved if a new deal is not signed.

Real Madrid are unlikely to entertain losing one of their biggest stars on a free transfer next summer, particularly given the sizeable loyalty bonus he would be entitled to if he remains at the club.

Intermediaries have contacted Arsenal about the potential availability of Vinicius Junior this summer. It is understood that Vinicius, who is one of the highest-paid players in Europe, could receive a basic salary similar to that of Kylian Mbappé, which would result in his earnings exceeding £500,000 per week before bonuses.

Arsenal’s Ambition: The Bigger Picture

Arsenal head into the 2026 summer transfer window as Premier League champions, but also as a side still eager to bolster their quality and depth to the maximum. The Gunners secured the top flight crown for the first time in 22 years and also went agonisingly close to winning a maiden Champions League title, but fell to Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shootout.

Despite their success, multiple reports suggest Mikel Arteta is keen to make further improvements to the squad he currently has at his disposal.

Mikel Arteta’s main summer target remains Julian Alvarez, with Arsenal looking to exploit Atletico Madrid’s steadfast refusal to sell to FC Barcelona. The main position Arsenal seem focused on improving this summer is the left wing. Signing Vinicius would represent the ultimate statement of intent on that front.

Leading their activity in the market will be new sporting director Andrea Berta, who proved his worth as a transfer miracle-worker during his decade-plus stay at Atletico Madrid.

Vinicius on His Future

There is currently a belief that Vinicius is not actively trying to leave Madrid. Interest has also come from the Saudi Pro League, and potential destinations have been outlined to Vinicius while negotiations with Real Madrid continue.

Saudi interest remains real. Saudi Arabia are preparing a colossal offer for Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior. However, Arsenal’s offer of Champions League football and Premier League competition makes their proposal significantly different in sporting terms.
