Argentina pay tribute to Diego Maradona through a holographic show

Ahead of Agentina’s 1-1 draw with Chile, the national team paid tribute to Diego Maradona in stunning fashion. The legendary forward was depicted as a hologram, doing kick-ups before kickoff in a celebration of his career.

That was followed by a compilation of his most memorable goals throughout his career, which was projected onto the pitch.

The gesture was Argentina’s way of letting his family and fans know that his legacy will live on forever, even more so than Leo Messi. Maradona is most prominently remembered for winning the 1986 World Cup almost by himself, including the infamous “Hand of God” moment leading up to it.

His passing rocked the world, since he established himself as one of the greatest of all time during his playing days. Maradona featured for Barcelona, and most notably, Napoli during his club career.

Maradona scored 34 goals in 91 appearances for Argentina, and to this day is hailed as the biggest star of the country. Before the Copa America, Argentina also paid tribute to him during the World Cup qualifiers.

In their first competitive match since his death in November, the team wore commemorative shirts which had the icon’s picture during warmup. Moreover, a statue of the forward was also established ahead of the same game.

Among the other tributes paid to the forward has been Napoli renaming their stadium after their most iconic player, Diego Armando Maradona.
