Apple gives Samsung 120 Million OLED Panel tender for the upcoming batch of iPads

In the past few years, Apple has gradually progressed into OLED displays from LCD displays in regards to the Apple iPhone and now the same seems to be happening for the iPad.

As a result of the beginning of this gradual transition, Samsung has received a tender of 120 million OLED panels from Apple.

Reports suggest that apart from Samsung, LG will also supply OLED panels to panels however Samsung is expected to get larger than LG.

An Apple executive who has been part of the company’s plan went on ahead and stated “Regarding the question of who will be the main supplier, Samsung Display will keep the top status as it’s been set to supply 120 million OLED panels for future iPads. But Apple is leaning toward LG Display as LG won orders from Apple to supply 50 million OLED sheets for next-generation iPads, more than double the amount it received earlier.”

Chinese electronic components manufacturer BOE also has received an order for OLED panels from Apple however it can not be said for sure if those OLED panels will be used in upcoming iPhones and iPads.

The first OLED iPad will most possibly release in the latter part of 2022 or the first quarter of 2023. It is also reported that the reason behind switching up from LCD to OLED display was to reduce the blooming effect.
