Animals on Netflix: Ben Affleck’s Kidnap Thriller Is One Phone Call Away

One ringing phone. One missing child. One campaign on the line. That’s the nerve-wracking setup of Animals, Ben Affleck’s new crime thriller landing on Netflix tomorrow. If you like your Friday nights tense, clear your schedule.

Animals Release Date and Where to Watch

Animals premieres globally on Netflix on October 9, 2026, with a limited theatrical release on the same day. If you’re in India, a Netflix subscription is all you need to watch it at home. Keep in mind that it’s reportedly R-rated, so it’s strictly for grown-up viewers.

What Is Animals About?

Ben Affleck plays Mark Kimball, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate, and Kerry Washington plays his wife Abigail. When their son is kidnapped, the couple are pulled into a web of deception while scrambling to raise the ransom. The official logline calls it the worst night of their lives, and the choices they make could tear their world apart. The teaser has no dialogue at all, just eerie music and a buzzing phone, and somehow that makes it scarier.

Cast and Crew to Watch

Besides the two leads, the film features Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher and Luis Gerardo Méndez. Affleck directs and co-wrote the film with Connor O. McIntyre, with a script revised by Billy Ray. Matt Damon co-produces and was originally meant to star, but he had to drop out because of scheduling. That left Affleck to step in front of the camera himself.

Why It’s Worth Your Time?

This is Affleck’s first directing job since Air in 2023, and the trailer hints at the tense style of his earlier thrillers like The Town. It also follows the success of The Rip, which pulled in huge viewing numbers for Netflix. A strong cast, a grounded premise and an LA backdrop make it a promising watch for crime-thriller fans.
