In the comics, Angel — real name Warren Worthington III — is a founding X-Man who Apocalypse takes under his wing after a major defeat, twisting his mind and remaking him as the Horseman of Death, better known as Archangel. Even Sentry and Grim Reaper (introduced via “Thunderbolts*” and “Wonder Man”) have paths to joining the villain’s ranks, and a multiversal variant of Spider-Man has also served as a Horseman in Marvel Comics lore. Apocalypse himself is one of the oldest and most powerful mutants in Marvel history, a character rooted in the long-running X-Men comic mythology that Marvel Studios is now adapting for the big screen.

With this many potential Horsemen already present, Marvel Studios appears to be laying groundwork well before Apocalypse’s formal live-action debut.
