Android 14 Update Rolls Out for Chromecast with Google TV: Everything You Need to Know

Google has officially rolled out the highly anticipated Android 14 update for Chromecast with Google TV. This upgrade, initially expected by late 2024, is now available as a substantial 809 MB download, moving devices from Android 12 to Android 14. Users can expect notable feature enhancements, security improvements, and a smoother overall experience.

Why This Update Matters

Chromecast with Google TV has been a popular streaming device, offering users a seamless way to access their favorite content. However, with the device going out of stock last month, many speculated about its future. This update not only reassures users of continued support but also introduces significant improvements to usability and security.

What’s New in the Android 14 Update?

This major update enhances the functionality and performance of Chromecast with Google TV. Let’s take a detailed look at the key features:

1. Find My Remote & Customizable Button

One of the standout features of this update is the addition of Find My Remote support. Losing a remote is a common issue for users, and this feature helps locate it quickly. Additionally, the Google TV Streamer Voice Remote now supports a customizable button, allowing users to personalize their viewing experience by assigning shortcuts to their favorite apps or functions.

2. Security & Stability Enhancements

Security is a top priority for any device connected to the internet, and Google has included the latest patches in this update. The security patch now extends from November 2024 to January 2025, ensuring Chromecast with Google TV is protected against vulnerabilities.

Beyond security, the update brings general system stability improvements, addressing bugs and enhancing overall performance. Users can expect smoother navigation, faster response times, and a more reliable streaming experience.

3. Performance Boosts & Bug Fixes

Google has optimized the system for better performance. Key improvements include:

• Faster app launching times
• Reduced lag while switching between apps
• Smoother 4K streaming with minimal buffering
• Enhanced HDR and Dolby Vision support for improved visual experience

For users experiencing occasional system crashes or app freezes, this update aims to resolve those issues, offering a more seamless experience.

4. Improved Google Assistant Integration

Google Assistant is now more responsive and accurate when using voice commands. Whether you’re searching for content, controlling smart home devices, or checking the weather, the assistant will deliver results more efficiently.

5. Better Power Management

The update also introduces improved power efficiency, meaning Chromecast with Google TV should consume less energy during idle states. This enhancement is particularly useful for users who leave their devices plugged in at all times.

Is This Chromecast’s Last Major Update?

With Chromecast with Google TV recently going out of stock, there has been speculation about its long-term future. While this may be the final major OS upgrade, Google has reassured users that they will continue to receive smaller updates, bug fixes, and security patches.

To put things in perspective, Google released eight updates in 2024 alone, and we’re already seeing the second update of 2025. This indicates that support will continue for some time, even if new Chromecast hardware is on the horizon.
