What Amita Muchhal Revealed About the Wedding Postponement

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Amita Muchhal shared that it was actually Palash — not Smriti — who made the first call to halt the wedding when Smriti’s father, Srinivas Mandhana, was taken ill with a heart-related condition. Amita revealed that Palash and Smriti’s father share an extraordinarily close bond, even beyond what Smriti herself shares with him. The moment Palash heard about his health emergency, he decided on the spot that the pheras would not happen until Smriti’s father had fully recovered.
The emotional weight of the moment hit Palash hard. Amita told the media outlet that he broke down so severely that his own health deteriorated — he was admitted to the hospital for four hours, put on an IV drip, and underwent ECG and other tests. Everything came back normal, but he was under severe emotional stress. His sister, singer Palak Muchhal, was later spotted rushing to visit him at a Mumbai hospital.
Amita also revealed a bittersweet detail from the night before: Smriti’s father had danced all night at the Sangeet, posting stories on Instagram, visibly overjoyed. Nobody could have guessed what the next morning would bring. The discomfort began only while the family was planning the baraat procession — and by the time it worsened, an ambulance had to be called.
The wedding, originally scheduled for November 23, 2025 in Sangli, was called off. Smriti and her teammates then deleted their pre-wedding celebrations from social media. It was a moment of collective grief for both families and fans.
