Puget Systems compared the new Threadripper PRO 5000 WX-Series processor to Intel’s Xeon W-3300 to examine how much faster it performed. The company analysed the performance of AMD’s Threadripper PRO chipset, the company’s earlier Threadripper CPUs, and Intel’s Xeon series using its unique Unreal Engine Benchmark and the engine’s source code generated in Visual Studio.

When a processor has more cores and threads, the CPU can operate more quickly, which is important for Unreal Engine game developers but less of a concern for film production studios unless they are processing more advanced builds for the editor.

When compiling code, the AMD Threadripper PRO 5995X performed 9% better than the Threadripper PRO 3995WX. Since the Intel Xeon W-3000 series only has a maximum of 38 cores, Intel did not offer any alternatives to these two processors.

The 32-core AMD Threadripper PRO 5975WX has nine percent more processing power than the Threadripper PRO 3975WX. With comparable core counts, the Threadripper PRO 5975WX was over 30% quicker than Intel’s 32-core Xeon W-3365 processor.

The AMD Threadripper PRO 5965WX cannot compete with the Threadripper PRO 3000WX series entirely, but it can match the Intel Xeon W-3345 with a total of 24-cores. By a factor of twenty-two, the AMD chip outperformed the Intel chipset.

When it comes to “baked lighting,” ray tracing tends to overshadow the concept and is more widely used in gaming, whereas it is the opposite in virtual productions. Baked lighting enables production teams to significantly increase frame rates in scenes that do not require dynamic lighting.

When creating the lighting for the test scenario, the AMD Threadripper PRO 5995WX outperformed the Threadripper PRO 3995WX by 12%, which is seen as a respectable improvement over the Visual Studio code compile test that Puget Systems provided.

The Threadripper PRO 5975WX is sixteen percent quicker than the Threadripper PRO 3975WX, and it performs thirty-four percent better than Intel’s Xeon W-3365.

The performance of AMD’s Threadripper PRO 5965WX is 5% faster than Intel’s Xeon W-3365 and 28% faster than Intel’s Xeon W-3345 with 24 cores. The Threadripper PRO 5995WX, 5975WX, and 5965WX all built shaders thirteen percent, eleven percent, and thirty-three percent faster than the average processor.

With AMD generating approximately twelve to fifteen percent superior overall performance in all variations evaluated by Puget Systems for lightning-fast compile times and effective workflows in the majority of circumstances, Intel was unable to compete with AMD’s Threadripper PRO-class CPUs.
