AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Official: World’s First Dual-Cache X3D CPU

AMD has officially announced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, the world’s first desktop CPU that stacks 3D V-Cache across both CCDs, packing a massive 208MB of total cache — 16MB L2 and 192MB L3 — launching on April 22.

Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 vs 9950X3D: What Actually Changed

The chip retains the same 16 cores and 32 threads as the regular 9950X3D, but comes with a slightly reduced maximum boost clock of 5.6 GHz and a higher 200W TDP — 30W more than the 9950X3D — making it AMD’s most power-hungry consumer desktop chip to date.

How Much Faster Is It Really?

Here’s where it gets honest. AMD claims the 9950X3D2 will deliver up to 7% better performance in rendering benchmarks like V-Ray and Blender, around 5–7% improvement in content creation tools including DaVinci Resolve and Geekbench multi-core, up to 13% faster performance in AI and simulation workloads, and 8% faster Unreal Engine compilation.

Gaming benchmarks haven’t been shared yet — which is notable, given that X3D chips have historically been positioned as gaming champions. The dual-cache design also doesn’t resolve inter-CCD latency, a hardware-level limitation that may temper real-world gaming gains compared to the cache improvements on paper.

As with other Zen 5 chips, the processor retains full AM5 platform compatibility with DDR5 memory, PCIe Gen 5, and Precision Boost Overdrive 2 support, and will ship in special monochrome packaging to distinguish it from other SKUs.
