AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX “Dragon Range” flagship CPU wipes the floor with Intel’s entire 13th Generation in CPU performance

The first preview of the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX “Dragon Range” flagship CPU has been released, and it looks fantastic. The AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX will be AMD’s fastest laptop chip ever.

It will be built on the 5nm Zen 4 core architecture and will have 16 cores and 32 threads, just like the Ryzen 9 7950X CPU from the desktop lineup. These 16 cores will have a base frequency of 2.5 GHz and can boost to 5.4 GHz, which is quite impressive for a mobility part.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU includes 80 MB of cache and a TDP range of 55-75W+.

AMD allows overclocking across its entire Dragon Range lineup, resulting in some seriously powerful laptops. NotebookCheck was able to put the chip through its tests in the ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 laptop, and the results speak for themselves. Starting with the overall performance figures, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX “Dragon Range” CPU was able to match the fastest Intel 13th Gen Laptop CPU in single-thread and end up faster in multi-threaded benchmarks.

Even when compared to the previous-generation ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 with an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU, the results are outstanding. Although the older chip consumed 80W of power, or 33% less than the 7945HX, the Dragon Range CPU provides more than twice the performance boost.

Given its higher chip efficiency and value proposition, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU performed admirably in gaming benchmarks. The gaming performance is primarily determined by the memory configuration and the power limits of the GPU itself. With lower temperatures and power, a certain range of laptops may use the available headroom to provide even higher performance in their designs.
