AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX “Dragon Range” CPU with 12 Zen 4 cores has been tested in the Geekbench benchmark and demonstrates some incredible performance for a laptop chip with a TDP of 55W. The AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX CPU is a high-end Dragon Range SKU with the Zen 4 architecture, bringing a high core count and larger cache to the mobile platform. The chips are aimed at the enthusiast market, so their TDPs range from 45W to 75W.

This chip has now been evaluated using the Geekbench benchmark. After seeing detailed performance tests of the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX and Ryzen 7 7745HX CPUs, it’s time to see what the 12-core chip can do in comparison to other chips.

The AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX Dragon Range CPU was tested in an Asian laptop manufacturer’s MECHREVO Jiaolong Series MRID6-23.

The laptop has 32 GB of DDR5-4800 memory and should have a nice NVIDIA RTX 40 series discrete GPU, though the exact model is unknown. In terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX Dragon Range CPU scored 2697 points in Geekbench 6’s single-core tests and 15039 points in Geekbench 6.

When compared to the Intel Core i9-12900K, the Dragon Range chip is on par in multi-threaded performance and 6% faster in single-threaded performance with clock speeds of up to 5.2 GHz. What’s more impressive is that the Core i9-12900K can consume up to 250W of power while running similar multi-threaded tests, whereas the Dragon Range chip consumes around 50-60W.

The CPU also outperforms the Intel Core i7-13700HX, which has 16 cores and scores around 2450 points in single-core and 14200 points in multi-threaded tests. The only question now is whether AMD will be able to supply their Dragon Range lineup, which includes the Ryzen 9 7845HX, in sufficient quantities.
