The upcoming Ryzen 5000U APUs are real and are expected to debut at the upcoming CES 2021 with Dr. Lisa Su. Before that, we have seen a range of leaks about these APUs as they are more interesting and powerful than before.

Already the Lucienne Ryzen 5 5500U and Ryzen 7 5700U have been spotted running on various laptops; they are nothing but Zen 2 refresh. However, the exciting part is the Ryzen 7 5800U, a Cezanne APU with Zen 3 cores, hence even more powerful.

These upcoming Ryzen 5000U series APUs will be launching at the start of 2021, most probably CES 2021, and it will be a mix of Zen 2 based Lucienne APUs and Zen 3 based Cezanne APUs as per leaks till now. So, essentially the new APUs will indeed be exciting but paired with the same old Vega iGPU.

As per the Geekbench listing, we see the upcoming 8 core and 16 threaded APU clocked at 1.9 GHz base and a maximum frequency of 4.44 GHz scores 1421 points in single-core and 6450 points in multi-core. The L3 memory cache has been improved to 16 MB, whereas the Vega iGPU is clocked at 2.0 GHz, cTDP ranging between 10-25 W.

Although the multi-core performance against the Zen 2 based Ryzen 7 5700U isn’t that impressive, that scores 6284 points, makes the 5800U just 2.6% faster. However, in single-core performance, we see a huge bump of about 20% although the RAM used here is not that fast.

Overall, the performance improvements are a mixed bag, as the total lineup is a mixture. However, users won’t mind until they get the same performance and efficiency they loved with Ryzen 4000U APUs.
