AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 series has finally appeared in Steam’s Hardware Survey after months of absence, but the numbers tell a sobering story. With just 0.22% market share, the RDNA 4 GPU trails even NVIDIA’s flagship RTX 5090 and every Blackwell card in circulation.

Steam Survey Snapshot (December 2025)

GPU Model	Market Share	Category
RTX 5070	3.05%	Most Popular Blackwell
RTX 5090	0.60%	NVIDIA Flagship
RX 9070 Series	0.22%	AMD RDNA 4
RTX 5070 Ti Laptop	0.36%	Lowest Blackwell
RX 7800 XT	1.57%	Top AMD GPU

First Appearance Falls Flat

After launching months ago alongside the RTX 50 series, AMD’s newest graphics cards finally registered in Steam’s December survey. The combined 0.22% share for the RX 9070 lineup places it behind every single Blackwell desktop GPU, including the entry-level models and even laptop variants.

NVIDIA’s RTX 50 family collectively commands 12.72% of Steam’s GPU market, with the RTX 5070 leading at 3.05%. Even the premium-priced RTX 5090 grabbed 0.60% share—nearly triple AMD’s entire RDNA 4 presence. The most telling comparison shows the laptop-focused RTX 5070 Ti outpacing AMD’s desktop flagship.

Why AMD Struggles on Steam

Several factors explain the disappointing debut. Supply chain constraints and inflated street prices pushed RX 9070 models well above their competitive MSRP pricing. While AMD aimed for value positioning against NVIDIA, actual retail prices often favored Team Green’s offerings once markups were factored in.

The RTX 3060 remains Steam’s most popular GPU overall, demonstrating gamers’ preference for proven NVIDIA hardware with mature driver support and DLSS compatibility. AMD’s absence from the previous generation’s mindshare creates momentum challenges that raw performance can’t immediately overcome.

Brighter CPU Picture for AMD

The survey wasn’t entirely bleak for AMD. Team Red’s CPU share climbed to 47.27% against Intel’s declining 55.47%—approaching the symbolic 50-50 split. Processors with 8, 6, and 12 cores saw the biggest gains, reflecting strong Ryzen adoption among PC builders.

AMD’s Radeon RX 7800 XT holds the highest share for any named AMD GPU at 1.57%, while unspecified Radeon Graphics account for 6.18% collectively. For the latest GPU benchmarks and gaming hardware news, visit TechnoSports. Check Steam’s official hardware survey for monthly updates.
