AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700: A New Era for AI Acceleration

AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700: The world of artificial intelligence is evolving at a breakneck pace, and the hardware powering it needs to keep up. AMD is stepping into the spotlight with a brand-new offering designed specifically for the demanding world of AI: the Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPU. This isn’t just another graphics card; it’s a dedicated AI powerhouse, promising significant performance gains and a new level of capability for AI professionals and researchers.

Introducing the Radeon AI PRO R9700

AMD is making a clear statement with its new “Radeon AI PRO” branding, signaling a dedicated focus on the artificial intelligence segment. The Radeon AI PRO R9700 is the first product under this new banner, built on the RDNA 4 architecture and optimized from the ground up for AI workloads.

At its core, the R9700 features the Navi 48 GPU, equipped with 64 compute units, which translates to 4096 stream processors. But the real stars of the show for AI are the 128 dedicated AI accelerators. These specialized cores are designed to dramatically speed up AI computations, making complex tasks more efficient than ever before.

One of the most significant features of the Radeon AI PRO R9700 is its memory configuration. It comes loaded with a substantial 32 GB of GDDR6 VRAM on a 256-bit bus. This is double the VRAM found on the consumer-focused RX 9070 XT, providing the necessary capacity to handle large and complex AI models that are becoming increasingly common.

Key Specifications of the Radeon AI PRO R9700

Performance Designed for AI

The Radeon AI PRO R9700 is engineered to excel in demanding AI tasks. AMD highlights its performance in various advanced local AI workloads, including large language models like DeepSeek R1 Distill Qwen 32B and Mistral Small 3.1. The 32 GB of VRAM is crucial for these models, as they often require significant memory capacity to run efficiently on a single GPU.

AMD claims that the Radeon AI PRO R9700 is twice as fast as the previous generation Radeon PRO W7800 32 GB GPU in benchmarks like DeepSeek R1. They also show significant performance advantages over GPUs with smaller VRAM buffers, demonstrating the importance of ample memory for certain AI models.

For even more demanding workloads, the Radeon AI PRO R9700 can be scaled up to 4-way multi-GPU configurations using a PCIe 5.0 platform. This allows for a massive 128 GB pool of VRAM, capable of handling extremely large models that would otherwise be impossible to run on a single card.

Availability

The AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPU is expected to be available in July through leading add-in-board partners. It will feature a dual-slot design with a blower-style cooler, making it suitable for a variety of workstation and server environments.
