Amazon has dipped its hand in almost every type of market it could find, which started as a retail service to sell books online in the US market. The same company is now looking to colonise Mars along with SpaceX.
Well, but there is one market in which we are still to see any considerable impact from the jeff Bezos led amazon. The company is yet to prove itself in the gaming market.
Amazon, however, had their first-ever big-budget video game called Crucible. Did anyone purchase it?
Well, the news arrived that the retail giant is finally calling it quits on its first-ever video game.
The company stated that the crucible team will be moved to its other projects and that the owners of the game will be given refunds.
When crucible was launched, it received a lot of negative reviews. However, it is worth noting that the game was just a test plan for Amazon’s games division. And in no way determines the companies game-making capabilities. But it’s still sad to pull the plug on the game after being released for just 6 months.
Amazon stated in its blog that, “This has been a labour of love, and we’re grateful for the time we got to spend on planet Crucible with you”.
The development team behind crucible has been shifted towards a new game development called the New World, which will be releasing in spring 2021.
With the launch of Luna Amazon is trying to compete with the likes of Google stadia and Microsofts xCloud, but the one thing it lacks is the originality of the games. Google though, does not offer any home-brewed games on stadia, has provided stadia premium subscription, which remains the best cloud gaming subscription in the market.
Microsofts Xbox offers exclusive games along with an xCloud subscription which is developed by the company partners and its subsidiaries. Amazon, however, thinks that the best approach to tackles these two established giants is by releasing its home-brewed games.
Will this strategy from Amazon work, we will know after the launch of the New World in spring 2021.
