Among a plethora of gaming laptops, Dell’s Alienware has introduced two new premium gaming laptops at CES 2022 for those who need more horsepower along with a bigger screen for display. Here are more details about the two of them:
Alienware x15 R2 – Alienware’s Thinnest 15-inch Gaming Laptop
This Dell Alienware x15 is a more powerful and feature-rich laptop than ever, thanks to new 12th generation Intel Core processors (up to Intel® Core™ i9 12900H), 5200MHz DDR5 memory, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series laptop graphics with more power than the previous generation and even improved display features – all within a thin profile to encourage mobility while prioritizing performance and functionality.
All of the Alienware x15 R2 configurations now come with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos certification. Engineered with Alienware Cryo-tech cooling technology with elements including our industry-first, Alienware exclusive: Element 31 thermal interface material made of a Gallium-Silicone matrix.
On the display front, you have both FHD 165Hz panel/FHD 360Hz or QHD 240Hz panels. All of the configurations of the laptop comes with Alienware’s patent-pending quad-fan design along with our patent-pending Smart Fan control technology where each individual fan can independently spin up, slow down or remain steady according to various sensors within the system.
The X-Series includes Alienware’s HyperEfficient Voltage Regulation technology; capable of up to 12-phase graphics voltage regulation (x17), 8-phase graphics voltage regulation (x15), and up to 7-phase graphics voltage regulation (x14) – the benefit is high-performance over marathon gaming sessions (long hours)
The gaming laptop also includes the evolved AlienFX lighting experience with 100 micro- LEDs in the rear stadium lighting zone alone (the x15 has 90) and is addressable as a singular zone in Alienware Command Center. The Alien head, keyboard and power button lighting are also customizable.
It also features Alienware’s X-Series thin keyboard with a 1.5mm key travel and includes N-Key Rollover technology as well as Anti-ghosting technology. The Dell Alienware x15 R2 weighs a maximum of 2.36Kgs (5.2 Lbs.) and includes a standard 87 Whr Lithium-Ion battery.
For connectivity, you get Killer™ Wi-Fi 6 AX1675 802.11ax 2×2 Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 5.2 support. Also, the gaming laptop ships with Windows® 11 Home out-of-the-box, while you do have a Windows Hello IR camera for Facial Biometrics, security and user login available on all configurations.
Alienware x17 R2 – Alienware’s Thinnest 17-inch Gaming Laptop
So, the Dell Alienware x17 R2 borrows the exact set of features that the Alienware x15 R2 has but has a bigger 17.3-inch display and has more room i.e. a bigger chassis. While in terms of hardware, the bigger brother Alienware x17 R2 has to support up to the best-in-class Intel® Core™ i9 12900HK processor, paired with up to 32GB Dual-Channel DDR5 4800MHz RAM.
There are almost no changes in features and specs except this while obviously, the display here is a bit different, upgraded from the 15-inch variant. You can configure the Alienware x17 R2 with a 17.3″ UHD (3840 x 2160) display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 4ms response time with ComfortView Plus, NVIDIA G-SYNC and Advanced Optimus support.
Or, you have an FHD (1920 x 1080) 360Hz 1ms panel as well, much like the X15, this Alienware x17 R2 also supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos certification. One strange fact though even though this Alienware x17 R2 has enough room and good thermals, Dell has topped out the NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3060 6GB still.
The gaming laptop weighs a maximum of 3.09 Kgs (6.82 Lbs.) and includes an
87 Whr Lithium-Ion battery. You either get to choose from Alienware’s X-Series thin keyboard with a 1.5mm key travel and includes N-Key Rollover technology as well as Anti-ghosting technology or use feature Alienware’s CherryMX ultra-low-profile mechanical laptop key.
