She learned from the master of star launches — and then quietly outmanoeuvred him. At Prime Video’s It Starts Here 2026 event, Karan Johar asked Alia Bhatt who the cast of Don’t Be Shy was. She refused to reveal names — explaining: “Because there’s a way to launch actors. We have learned from the best. And the best has always taught us that there’s a time for everything.” KJo was visibly stunned. The internet was delighted.

What Is Don’t Be Shy About?

The film follows Shyamili “Shy” Das — a 20-year-old who believes she has her life fully planned — until unforeseen events cause her world to unravel completely beyond her control.

The first look poster introduces a vibrant and youthful tone, featuring four young individuals standing with their backs to the camera against a colourful backdrop — suggesting themes of friendship, identity, and self-expression, hinting at a coming-of-age narrative built around stepping out of one’s comfort zone. That image alone says everything about the kind of film this is — warm, honest, and gloriously alive.

Four Fresh Faces — A Bold Production Decision

The single most exciting detail about Don’t Be Shy is its casting philosophy. Alia confirmed the film will feature a cast drawn entirely from outside the film industry — introducing new performers rather than established actors, aligning with Eternal Sunshine’s interest in backing fresh voices and stories rooted in contemporary experiences.

Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals at Prime Video India, called it “an extremely fun yet warm romantic comedy, with a remarkable character like Shy Das at its heart,” and praised Alia’s instinct for stories that are “emotionally rich, deeply relatable, and immensely entertaining.”

Alia herself said: “At Eternal Sunshine, we’ve always wanted to back stories that feel honest and voices that feel their own. This film immediately spoke to us because of its sincerity and coming-of-age lens and Sreeti’s passion and energy naturally fed into the spirit of the story.”
