Akshay Kumar Jim Corbett-inspired hunter role is reportedly headlining Priyadarshan’s next film, a wildlife conservation drama planned to be shot entirely inside forests. The untitled project marks the ninth collaboration between the actor and the veteran filmmaker, according to a Mid-Day report picked up by the outlet.

The film is set in 1960s India and blends comedy with thriller elements. Kumar’s character begins as a hunter and tracker who kills man-eating tigers and leopards terrorising his village, but his journey gradually shifts toward protecting the very wildlife he once hunted.

The Jim Corbett Connection

The reported premise draws clear parallels with the legendary British hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett, whose name now adorns India’s oldest national park. Corbett’s real-life transformation from killing man-eaters to championing wildlife protection mirrors the arc described in the report.

Priyadarshan and Kumar have largely stuck to comedy in their previous outings, making this wildlife-centric thriller a notable departure. The director’s ability to balance humour with dramatic stakes could give the film a distinct tonal identity, especially with the 1960s period setting.

A Reunion Nine Films Strong

The duo’s track record spans crowd-pleasers like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, De Dana Dan, and Khatta Meetha, though their recent collaborations have seen mixed commercial results.

This project signals a deliberate pivot toward content-driven cinema for both. Kumar has been vocal about choosing scripts with social relevance, and a conservation theme fits that pattern. The actor’s action-hero credibility also lends itself to a hunter role, even as the narrative reportedly pushes him toward advocacy over violence.

A Shift From Comedy to Conservation

The report suggests the film will explore the devastating impact of poaching and deforestation on wildlife habitats. That thematic weight, combined with Priyadarshan’s visual storytelling, could position this as a meaningful addition to India’s growing eco-cinema space.

Filming entirely in forests presents logistical challenges, from weather unpredictability to wildlife safety protocols. Yet it also offers authenticity that studio-bound productions rarely achieve, potentially giving the film a raw, immersive quality.

What’s Next

Neither Kumar nor Priyadarshan has officially confirmed the project, so details remain subject to change. Fans should watch for an announcement from the production house, which could clarify the title, casting, and release timeline.

The reported premise gives us reason to be cautiously optimistic. If the film balances its conservation message with the duo’s proven comic timing, it could deliver something genuinely fresh. Verdict: This pairing has the ingredients for a compelling comeback, provided the script matches the ambition of its setting.
