Ahsoka Season 2 Release Date Confirmed: Next Year, Exclusively on Disney+

The wait is almost over. After more than three years, the galaxy’s most famous former Jedi Padawan is finally returning to screens. The second season of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars series Ahsoka will premiere January 20, 2027, exclusively on Disney+. The announcement came on August 14 during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as part of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

Series creator and Lucasfilm president and chief creative officer Dave Filoni, along with stars Rosario Dawson, Hayden Christensen, and Eman Esfandi, took to the stage to debut the trailer for the new season.

Premiering just one month ahead of the Star Wars theatrical re-release in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the film that started it all, Ahsoka Season 2 is a fitting tribute to Filoni’s love of the original Star Wars films and his work over the past 20 years in Star Wars animation and live action.

As Ahsoka Tano, Dawson said Season 2 will showcase an even bigger story for her former Jedi. “This season is massive!” she said.

Ahsoka Season 2 is slated for a January 20, 2027 premiere on Disney+, featuring the menacing return of Grand Admiral Thrawn as the primary antagonist seeking to launch a full-scale war against the New Republic. Meanwhile, Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren are stranded on the dangerous planet Peridea, tasked with finding a way back home. Ezra Bridger has successfully returned to the main galaxy but faces the dire consequences of Thrawn’s actions and must work to rescue his friends. The season will also mark the highly anticipated return of Anakin Skywalker, who will appear in flashbacks and guide Ahsoka, challenging her identity as a Jedi.

The New Baylan Skoll: Rory McCann Steps In

One of the most emotionally significant changes in Season 2 involves the recasting of a beloved character. Rory McCann, best known as The Hound in Game of Thrones, will take over the role of Baylan Skoll following the death of actor Ray Stevenson in 2023. Baylan’s story will continue as he investigates the mysterious power connected to the ancient Mortis gods.

It was confirmed that fan-favourite character Baylan Skoll, whose story ended on a literal cliffhanger in Season 1, will be returning. Skoll was played by the late Ray Stevenson, who tragically passed away shortly before the show aired. Stevenson is being replaced by Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann, who was a friend of his.

Anakin Skywalker Is Back — And More Than a Memory

Hayden Christensen also returns as Anakin Skywalker, appearing both in flashbacks and as a guiding Force ghost. “It’s such an honour to play Anakin Skywalker,” Christensen told the D23 crowd. “Anakin continues to advise Ahsoka; he challenges her and pushes her to answer the most important question in her life — are you or are you not a Jedi?”

Ahsoka Tano is a former Jedi Padawan who was trained by Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars. During this time, she had a falling out with her mentor, Anakin.
