In a candid podcast conversation with Lilly Singh, Abhishek Bachchan finally addressed what everyone’s been whispering about for years — and his answers are refreshingly honest.
What Did Abhishek Actually Say?
Abhishek said Aishwarya’s success never affected him, as he grew up seeing Jaya Bachchan being more successful than Amitabh Bachchan when they first got married — making such dynamics feel entirely natural. India Forums
He also redefined what “ego” means to him in the most unexpected way.
Key Revelations at a Glance
| Topic | What Abhishek Said |
|---|---|
| Jealousy of Aishwarya? | Never felt it — partnership, not competition |
| Marriage Dynamic | Built on equality, no traditional gender roles |
| His “Ego” Comment | Ego = self-worth, not insecurity |
| Amitabh’s Role | Never launched him in films |
| His Parents’ Influence | Jaya was bigger star than Amitabh at marriage |
| Career Pride | Built his own path on merit |
On Aishwarya’s Stardom — “It Was Never Unusual”
Recalling how Jaya Bachchan had a larger fan following than Amitabh when they married, Abhishek explained that he was never raised to think he had to be the dominant one — it was always about partnership.
He added that he has known Aishwarya from the very start of his career, and the second film he made was with her — describing their bond as one that flows very naturally without rigid roles or expectations.
On Filling Amitabh Bachchan’s Shoes
This is where Abhishek gets truly candid. Rather than feeling burdened by his legendary father’s legacy, he chose to carve his own path.
Abhishek took pride in the fact that his father never launched him into the industry, stating: “Whatever I am today, I can say I have achieved it on my own merit.” DESIblitz
He noted that Amitabh Bachchan did not launch him or make a film for him, but later produced Paa (2009) — one of Abhishek’s most celebrated performances. India TV News
The “Severe Ego” Moment Everyone’s Talking About
Abhishek explained his now-viral “ego” quote: “I have never been the kind of person who believes that somebody else will have to give up or stop running for me to win that race. I don’t want to be in a marriage where my wife has to stop doing something because I need to feel more of a man about myself.” News24online
This is exactly the mature, secure mindset one hopes to see from public figures — and it’s a masterclass in how celebrity marriages can thrive away from tabloid noise.
