Behind every successful filmmaker stands a story of sacrifice and support. For Lokesh Kanagaraj, the acclaimed director behind blockbusters like Leo and Kaithi, that pillar of strength has been his wife, Aishwarya—the mother of Aarudhra Lokesh and her sister Adhvika.
In a throwback interview that recently resurfaced, Lokesh revealed how Aishwarya became the family’s sole breadwinner during his struggling years, a sacrifice that ultimately paved the way for his cinematic brilliance.
Aarudhra Lokesh: Sacrifice That Changed Everything
Picture this: A comfortable bank job paying ₹70,000 per month, financial stability, and a growing family. Most would consider it foolish to walk away. But Lokesh Kanagaraj did exactly that to chase his filmmaking dreams.
What made this leap of faith possible? Aishwarya stepped up. Just months after giving birth to their first daughter, she returned to work, shouldering the entire financial responsibility while her husband pursued his passion for cinema.
| Family Member | Role | Notable Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Lokesh Kanagaraj | Director | Left ₹70,000/month bank job for cinema |
| Aishwarya | Wife & Breadwinner | Supported family during struggling years |
| Adhvika Lokesh | Elder Daughter | Born before Lokesh’s directorial debut |
| Aarudhra Lokesh | Younger Daughter | Growing up in a successful film family |
From Struggle to Stardom
The gamble paid off spectacularly. Today, Lokesh Kanagaraj is the mastermind behind the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), having directed superstars like Rajinikanth, Thalapathy Vijay, and Kamal Haasan.
His upcoming film Coolie, featuring Rajinikanth, is one of 2025’s most anticipated releases. The director has also made Aishwarya a promise—she can now take a well-deserved break from work as he provides for the family, including Aarudhra Lokesh and her sister.
The Power of Partnership
Lokesh and Aishwarya’s love story began long before the spotlight. The couple married in 2012, building their foundation during simpler times. Their journey proves that behind every blockbuster filmmaker is often an unsung hero making silent sacrifices.
