Aamir Khan Walks Away From Ashneer Grover’s Biopic — Here’s Why

The casting drama around Ashneer Grover’s biopic just took an unexpected turn. Aamir Khan, who was reportedly set to headline the project, has stepped away — and the reason comes down to something every film set eventually faces: creative differences.

What Happened with Aamir Khan?

According to Bollywood Hungama, Khan had genuinely immersed himself in the world of Indian startups while developing the script, working closely with director Rahul Mody. But somewhere along the way, the two clashed over creative direction, and Khan chose to part ways with the project rather than push through the disagreement.

A source close to the production said Khan sat with the script and shaped it to his own sensibilities before the differences with Mody became too significant to resolve. It’s a reminder that even big-name attachments don’t guarantee a smooth path to the screen — vision mismatches can derail projects at any stage.

The Project Moves Forward Regardless

Despite losing its lead, the biopic’s core team isn’t slowing down. Rahul Mody remains in the director’s chair, and Shraddha Kapoor is staying on in a dual role — playing Ashneer’s wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, while also co-producing the film. That kind of dual investment suggests the makers still believe strongly in the story they’re building.

What’s Next for the Lead Role

With Khan out, the makers are reportedly speaking with two to three younger actors to take on the role of Ashneer Grover. This isn’t the first casting shake-up either — Imran Khan had earlier denied being attached to the same role, meaning this biopic has already seen its fair share of behind-the-scenes turbulence before a single frame has rolled.

The film aims to chart Grover’s rise through India’s startup ecosystem and the controversies that followed — a space Aamir Khan, known for his socially driven film choices, as detailed on Wikipedia, was reportedly drawn to.
