“A Journey to Glow” Finally Begins Filming After a Year of Casting Drama

After months of uncertainty, A Journey to Glow (一念江南) has officially started filming — and the wait has been worth it. The period drama, once stuck in limbo, has locked in Wang Anyu and Zhao Jinmai as its new leading pair, bringing an end to months of speculation about who would headline the show.

The road here wasn’t easy. The project was first announced back in 2025 with Esther Yu and Wang Anyu attached as the leads. But Esther Yu soon found herself at the center of controversy over allegations tied to her family business and accusations of bullying on a variety show. The fallout was messy — rumors swirled that Wang Anyu had exited the project entirely, and filming that was originally set for 2025 ended up postponed indefinitely, with some fans even assuming the show had been quietly shelved. dramapandadramapanda

Good news for fans: it wasn’t. The production retained Wang Anyu as the male lead while bringing in Zhao Jinmai as the new female lead, giving the long-delayed series a fresh start.

A Journey to Glow: Key Details

The story itself sounds like a fun ride: an ensemble cast comes together on a quest to uncover a hidden treasure from a fallen dynasty. Supporting the leads are Wang Jiajia, Wang Ju, Liu Chang, Bai Bing, Lin Muran, Xu Zhengxi, and Guo Junchen — the last of whom is teaming up with Zhao Jinmai for the third time, after their earlier pairing in a previous drama.

As the sister show to the widely loved A Journey to Love, expectations are already running high among C-drama fans eager to see if this new pairing can recreate that same magic.

Zhao Jinmai has steadily built her name in Chinese entertainment through a mix of period and modern productions, per Wikipedia, making her casting here one of the year’s more closely watched moves.
