The 4K re-release of Darling — the 2010 Telugu romantic comedy drama starring Prabhas and Kajal Aggarwal — has kicked off its theatrical re-run with numbers that have left the industry genuinely impressed. A film that’s older than some of today’s multiplex chains is outperforming a significant chunk of fresh releases, and the reason is no mystery at all.
Opening Weekend Numbers: Stronger Than Expected
The Prabhas and Kajal Aggarwal starrer recorded a good opening weekend of Rs 7.25 crore gross at the Indian box office, with a solid opening of around Rs 4.70 crore on Day 1. The film witnessed some drops across the weekend but maintained an impressive overall trajectory. Songkick
Based on current trends, the movie is expected to wind up its opening week around the Rs 10 crore mark at the Indian box office. For a 4K re-release of a 16-year-old film, that’s a remarkable achievement. Songkick
Region-Wise Box Office Breakdown
The business was dominated by its home territory, with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana collectively contributing Rs 6.40 crore — Nizam alone brought in Rs 3.75 crore, Andhra added Rs 2.20 crore, and Ceeded contributed Rs 45 lakh. Outside the home markets, Karnataka added Rs 70 lakh while the rest of India contributed around Rs 15 lakh. Songkick
| Region | Collections |

Why Is a 2010 Film Packing Theatres in 2026?
The answer has two parts: the film itself, and the man in it.
Originally released in 2010 and a massive blockbuster at the time, Darling is witnessing a successful re-run that speaks volumes about how well the film has aged. Prabhas’s superstardom is a prime factor in drawing audiences back to theatres even 16 years after the original release.
And that’s putting it mildly. Prabhas today is a pan-India phenomenon — the face of the Baahubali franchise and one of Indian cinema’s most bankable stars globally. When his face appears on a theatre screen, people show up. It doesn’t matter if the film is new or not.

The Bigger Picture: Re-Releases Are Having a Moment?
Darling 4K is part of a broader trend sweeping Indian cinema. According to Wikipedia’s entry on Prabhas, the actor’s career trajectory — from regional Telugu star to pan-India icon — is one of the most dramatic transformations in Indian film history, driven largely by the Baahubali franchise. That journey has turned even his pre-Baahubali films into events worth revisiting on the big screen.
Darling is a genuinely charming film, directed by A. Karunakaran. The 4K upgrade gives audiences a fresh reason to experience it in theatres — and clearly, many are jumping at the chance. For more South Indian cinema coverage, follow TechnoSports for the latest updates.
