HYBE, one of South Korea’s biggest entertainment companies, is facing intense scrutiny following allegations of sexualizing minors in their newly debuted K-pop girl group, Katseye. A particular choreography featuring members Gabriela and Yoonchae has sparked heated debate online, with many accusing HYBE of inappropriate styling and dance moves for underage artists.

This issue gained significant attention after a performance video was released, highlighting moves some viewers found suggestive, especially given that some Katseye members are minors. While HYBE has not officially commented on the matter, the debate continues to divide fans worldwide.

Why Is Katseye’s Choreography Under Fire?

Katseye, a newly launched girl group under HYBE’s label, was meant to represent a fresh, global image for the company. However, a recent choreography featuring members Gabriela and Yoonchae raised eyebrows:

Gabriela, a minor, performs moves that some describe as too provocative for her age.
Yoonchae’s styling and specific gestures in the same performance have fueled further controversy.

The backlash began trending on global forums like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), with the phrase:
“The way HYBE sexualizes minors”
quickly gaining traction. Some K-pop fans argue this crosses a line, while others defend it as a cultural misunderstanding or part of K-pop’s established performance style.

What Fans Are Saying

The fanbase is visibly split. Here’s a brief breakdown:

Perspective	Key Arguments	Community Response
Against HYBE	Inappropriate for underage artists	Viral backlash, hashtags trending
Defending HYBE	Part of K-pop choreography norms, misunderstood context	Mixed support, some ignoring the debate
Neutral Observers	Concerned but awaiting official statements	Calls for clearer guidelines from agencies

Many long-time K-pop fans reference previous controversies, saying HYBE is repeating past mistakes seen with other young idols. Others insist there’s a difference between mature-themed choreography and outright exploitation.

Why This Debate Matters Beyond K-pop

This isn’t just a niche fan issue. The conversation around minors in entertainment industries globally has been ongoing:

US and UK Laws: Strictly regulate underage performers, including choreography and styling.
South Korea’s Industry Norms: Historically more lenient, but rising global awareness is pressuring companies like HYBE to adapt.

The clash between global cultural norms and K-pop’s performance culture makes this incident a notable case study in modern entertainment ethics.

Conclusion

The debate around Katseye’s choreography is more than a simple fan quarrel—it raises essential questions about the balance between performance art and the protection of minors in the global entertainment industry. Whether HYBE will address these concerns directly remains to be seen.
