Lionel Messi was on the verge of leaving Barcelona in the summer but then-president Josep Maria Bartomeu refused to let him go and he eventually remained at Barcelona.

Bartomeu has now resigned and a new president will be elected on 24th January. The new president may have a huge role to play in Lionel Messi’s future at Barcelona.

Messi has now given an exclusive interview with La Sexta’s Jordi Evole. Here’s what he had to say about his old teammates Neymar and Suarez along with his current teammate Griezmann:

Evole: I find it strange that none of them [Barcelona presidential candidates] have called you. Would you be prepared to stay if Xavi is brought in as coach or Neymar as a player?

Messi: Let’s wait and see what happens and I’ll make my mind up in the summer. The club are going through a tough period financially so it will be complicated to bring Neymar in.

Leo Messi to La Sexta: “What happened with Luis Suarez to Atléti was… crazy! He left for free, paying the remaining years of his contract and he joined a team that fight for the same objectives as us. Unbelievable”. 🔴🇦🇷

Evole: Do you have a Whatsapp group with Suarez and Neymar?

Messi:  Yes, we speak a great deal and I speak to Luis every day. Last time I spoke to Neymar was after the UCL Round of 16 draw.

Evole: Who do you get on with best in the dressing room? How do you get on with Griezmann?

Messi: With those players who have been for some time at the club and I get along fine with Antoine.

Stay tuned we’ll be bringing in more exclusive conversations from the interview.
