American multinational tech company, Intel Corp., has admitted that it’s investigating whether it was a victim of the SolarWinds Corp. hack that has created an annoyance and fear in the U.S. government and private sector.
“We are still actively investigating, but we currently see no evidence or indication that our systems were affected,” the company said in an emailed statement according to Bloomberg.
Nvidia Corporation, a rival U.S. chipmaker of Intel, has also informed that they are looking into whether there was illicit access of their systems.
“We have no evidence at this time that Nvidia was adversely affected,” it said in a statement.
Hackers targeted senior US treasury officials
According to Senator Ron Wyden, in a widespread cyberattack on federal agencies, systems used by senior officials at the U.S. Treasury Department used by senior officials were hacked.
“According to Treasury staff, the agency suffered a serious breach, beginning in July, the full depth of which isn’t known,” Wyden, the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, said according to HindustanTimes. “Treasury still does not know all of the actions taken by hackers, or precisely what information was stolen.”
In a report provided earlier by Cybersecurity firm, Recorded Future Inc., and three other people involved in the investigation, nearly 200 organisations have been hacked as part of a suspected Russian cyber-attack. Top companies and government agencies have been put on high alert and investigations are underway.
