Samsung emerged as the country’s leading smartphone manufacturer in 2024 with 7% YoY growth and 1% YoY growth in exports. Vivo overtook everyone to take second place with 14% YoY growth and 14% share of total shipments. Foxconn Hon Hai, on the other hand, saw manufacturing volumes soar 19% YoY largely because of the production volumes of the Apple iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and iPhone 13 models.

Oppo, meanwhile, dropped to fourth with its shipments down 34% YoY. In contrast, Xiaomi and Realme helped DBG to achieve double-digit shipment growth in 2024, indicating their resilience in the market. Out of all new smartphone makers, Tata Electronics was the fastest-growing brand, at 107% YoY growth. The rise was primarily fueled by production of Apple’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 devices.

Within the broader mobile handset category, Dixon led the manufacturers propelled by robust shipments from Transsion and Motorola. In the smartphone category specifically, Dixon witnessed a YoY growth of 39%, aided by fresh partnerships with Transsion and Realme. Government-backed incentives, including the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, have also aided the efforts to attract global manufacturers to establish production facilities in India, solidifying the nation as a major player in mobile manufacturing.
