WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to share their favorite Spotify tracks directly in Status updates. This follows a move only months ago that allowed Instagram users to add Reels songs to Spotify playlists, which was another step in Meta’s ongoing plan to integrate its platforms more seamlessly.

WhatsApp for Android Beta Tests Direct Spotify Music Sharing in Status Updates

The latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (2.25.8.3) adds support for this feature, allowing users to share music even without the help of a third-party application, as per WABetaInfo. Now, when users choose to share a song from Spotify, they will see a new Status option. It generates a preview, where the song’s name, artist, and album details are shown. A “Play on Spotify” button will also be added, letting users one-tap open the track in Spotify.

This functionality is similar to the way Spotify song previews look on Instagram Stories, furthering Meta’s strategy of integrating the user experience over its various applications. WhatsApp has added a lot of Instagram features over the past year, including photo stickers, usernames, and music in status updates. This communication lets users share their Spotify finds and recommendations, all inside WhatsApp, which complements the messaging app’s existing Status feature and enriches user engagement further for music-sharing enthusiasts.

Unfortunately, at the moment, this option is limited to only beta testers so only a few users get to access it for now. So far, Meta hasn’t confirmed an official timeline for a rollout, but given its recent touting of feature parity across platforms, a wider release seems to be sooner rather than later. As WhatsApp is used by an increasing number of people for messaging and sharing updates, the addition of direct integration with Spotify in Status would be a welcome addition for those in love with music. If this test works out, users will be able to share their favorite tracks more seamlessly, with less of a need for screenshots or manual links.
