With the signing of Ruben Dias, Eric Garcia has found regular playing time hard to come by owing to the newfound defensive partnership between Laporte and Dias. There were rumours during the summer that Barcelona were looking to bring back Dias from Manchester City to bolster their defense.
While no move for the Spaniard went through during the summer, a move during the winter seems to be on the cards for Barcelona. However, they will have to sell first if they are to pay up for the centre-back during January.
Should a move during the winter not be possible for the Catalonians, Manchester City will have to let go of him for free since his contract expires in June 2021, and he will be a free agent. The player has been keen on a return to his former club, and will certainly be on the cards if Barcelona can re-acquire his services for free.
The player has reached a total agreement with the club regarding his wages, the agent fees and all the other minute details that so often hold up football transfers. It is only a matter of time, and more importantly, money transferred between two clubs that the move becomes official.
A 5-year contract seems to be on the cards for Garcia once he makes his return to Barcelona, and given the state of the defense, will be extremely vital to the team if he can perform consistently and stay fit.
Elsewhere at Barcelona, the contracts of Riqui Puig and Oscar Mingueza are up for renewal, since their deals had the option of being renewed for two years by the club. Both of them are seen as part of the long term project in Barcelona and are very talented youngsters. The extension will see their new deals run through 2023.
