Kush Maini Brings India Closer to F1 Dream – Becomes First Indian to Win FIA Constructors Title with Invicta

A Season of Highs and Lows for Kush Maini

The 2024 F2 season was anything but smooth for Maini, who finished 13th in the Drivers’ Championship. Despite the ups and downs, Maini’s performance was instrumental in Invicta Racing’s dominant campaign. He racked up five podium finishes, including a memorable race win in Hungary and an impressive pole position in Jeddah, a first for any Indian in Formula 2.

While his results weren’t always consistent, Maini showed remarkable resilience. In the season finale, he demonstrated his skill with a stellar qualifying session, securing P6. In the sprint race, he gained six positions in a single lap, and in the feature race, he moved up three places early on. However, his momentum was hampered by mechanical issues, including floor damage and a stalled pit stop.

"I’m thrilled to be joining a team with such a strong pedigree and history in Formula 2 like DAMS Lucas Oil." 😁

Reflecting on the season, Maini said:

“Not the year I wanted it to be given how we started, but still a lot of positives to take away, including a Constructors’ Championship. Thank you to everyone at Invicta for a good run and wish them all the luck for the future. Looking forward to what’s next for me and raring to go for next year.”

Invicta’s Triumph: The Role of Teamwork

Invicta Racing clinched the Constructors’ Championship with a comfortable 34.5, point lead over Campos Racing, Maini’s former team. Maini’s contributions, alongside teammate Gabriel Bortoleto, who won the Drivers’ Championship, highlight the importance of teamwork in achieving this historic feat.

Maini’s win in Hungary, combined with consistent podium finishes and crucial points throughout the season, were key to Invicta’s success. His pole position in Jeddah was a defining moment, setting the tone for the team’s dominance.

Why This Matters for India’s F1 Dream

Maini’s historic achievement is more than a personal milestone; it’s a significant step forward for India’s motorsport aspirations. While Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok broke barriers by competing in Formula 1, Maini’s success in Formula 2 – a direct feeder series to F1, rekindles hopes of seeing another Indian driver in the pinnacle of motorsport.

With his growing reputation and proven skills, Maini is edging closer to a potential Formula 1 seat. His achievements also bring global attention to Indian talent, inspiring young racers across the country to pursue careers in motorsport.
