Arguably the greatest ever player to play the game has passed away on Wednesday, 25th November at the age of 60 years. The whole sports fraternity have been mourning the loss of the Argentine legend, who made numerous people fall in love with the beautiful game.
Diego Armando Maradona almost single-handedly won the World Cup for Argentina in 1986. One of the most fondly remembered moments from the 1986 World Cup victory is his two iconic goals against England in the Quarter Finals of the victorious campaign. The first of which, was the infamous “Hand of God” goal. The other was the 60-metre dribble from his own half that FIFA voted the goal of the century in 2002.
Maradona’s most memorable club tenure was with Napoli, whom he joined for a world record fee of £6.9 million from Barcelona. He went to become their highest goalscorer. Napoli had even retired the No 10 shirt in honour of Maradona and have now confirmed that they are going to rename their stadium, San Paolo after Diego Armando Maradona.
EA Sports, the manufacturer of the famous FIFA games have also come in front to honour one of the greatest players. When you first log in to the game today, you will see a message from the FIFA 21 team respectfully honouring the passing and celebrating the life of a true icon.
When you enter the FIFA 21 Ultimate Team you’ll find 3 unassigned items in your store. EA Sports have gifted a Maradona tifo along with Argentina kits both home and away to all players.
The passing of Diego Maradona is a huge loss to all of us. Whatever we do, we can never fill the void left by the Argentine legend. Rest in Peace, D1eg0!
