Picking up after the harrowing events of the season 1 finale that prompted a deadly explosion in London, the trailer shows Keri Russell as U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler and her family thrown immediately into more trouble at The Grid in Washington D.C.’s embassy row after refusing to work for Russian President Shevchenko.

This time the gamble is much bigger, and Kate believes that the attack might have come from within US security services. Promising another thrilling and nefarious story about loyalty and deceit, blackmail, murder, and international relations weaved with personal and political relationships, the entire show is to be a study on British corruption.

The Diplomat is a political thriller series that reveals the underbelly of government institutions through high-octane political drama with a deep character-driven foundation, Co-Created by Debora Cahn Kate Wyler — who has just become the first female U.S. ambassador to London and whose darkest family secret emerges right alongside her arrival in international diplomacy as well.

Set against the backdrop of global power politics, Season 2 continues to engage you in the world of statecraft, the price for domination over people and lands; commercial interests, military alliances strategic imperatives; and room for diplomatic talks or reconciliation. After the disastrous explosion that was set off to kill British officials, Kate is really up against it in her role. Despite being a skilled diplomat, she grapples with personal issues, including her troubled marriage and demanding career. Her candid and forthright approach enables her to handle difficult situations and build trust with those around her.

Rufus Sewell plays Hal Wyler, Kate’s estranged husband and former ambassador, who remains politically engaged and supportive, despite their tumultuous relationship. His charm and knowledge come in handy, at other times, his presence can make her job difficult and test the bonds in their personal and professional relationship.

Series 2 will see David Gyasi take on the role of British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison, who at times finds an adversary and potential ally in Kate. They work on different diplomacy hurdles that need cooperation and empathy combined. Rory Kinnear also weaves in some intrigue as Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge, another player maneuvering through the political game with shrewd strategies that only add to the stakes for Kate and her bid to navigate this shady world of international relations.
