On the other hand, more recent rumors suggest that two iPhone models with Apple’s modem rather than Qualcomm’s will be released in 2025.

In July of 2024, Kuo was the one to disclose that. But according to his most recent rumor, Apple will likely replace the Qualcomm modem quite soon.

Apple’s internal 5G chip production is expected to “grow rapidly” to 90-110 million units in 2026 and 160-180 million units in 2027, according to a forecast made today by supply chain expert Ming-Chi Kuo, with shipments expected to reach 35-40 million units in 2025.

In the first quarter of 2025, Kuo predicted, the fourth-generation iPhone SE and the brand-new, incredibly thin iPhone 17 variants with an Apple-designed 5G modem would be available.

An Apple Intelligence-compatible chip, USB-C, an edge-to-edge OLED display, and more will be included to the iPhone SE 4. And all of this for an enticingly cheap price.

It is anticipated that the iPhone 17 Air will have to make certain concessions in order to avoid being the “best” iPhone. The 17 Pro and Pro Max will continue to hold that title, at least in terms of specs. However, it appears that the incredibly slim, futuristic form will continue to gain a lot of appeal.
