Apple’s M4 MacBook Pro Models Set to Begin Mass Production This Month: What to Expect

The latest Apple MacBook Pro updates have implied that the successor to the M1 Macs in a 14-inch and 16-inch format may come sooner than anticipated with rumored late-2022 releases. While these models were expected to launch in the fourth quarter, mass production starts later on an updated schedule. New information reveals that Apple’s supply chain is gearing up for production earlier than anticipated. Manufacturers will in fact kick off mass production of the new MacBook Pro models within this month, according to a report from DigiTimes today that was highlighted by MacRumors.

More About the Upcoming Apple M4 MacBook Pro

This report, which is behind a paywall, suggests that Apple’s supply chain could start assembling the new MacBook Pros soon, with only a few days remaining in August. The forecast comes as the new models aren’t expected to be due for a major redesign of their chassis, potentially speeding up construction.

Apple is also expected to introduce other new hardware in the fourth quarter alongside these refreshed MacBook Pros. One of the rumored launches includes a redesigned Mac mini, which will be available in smaller sizes. Apple is also working on enhanced versions of its 3nm chipset: the M4 Pro and M4 Max. Those chipsets should bring meaningful performance upgrades and, if the production timeline remains on schedule, could be announced as soon as October.

While the absence of a new design might dampen some excitement, the performance capabilities of the M4 Pro and M4 Max are likely to generate considerable interest. The M4 chip, which debuted in the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models, demonstrated impressive performance with its 10-core CPU, outperforming previous generations like the M2 and M3 and maintaining a lead over the M3 Pro and Snapdragon X Elite.

The less powerful 9-core variant also achieved notable performance, setting a record for single-core Geekbench 6 scores. With the robust cooling solution in the M4 MacBook Pro, users can expect sustained high performance across various workloads, further enhancing the appeal of these upcoming models.
