Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from cricket: Will Shikhar Dhawan play in IPL 2025?

Shikhar Dhawan, a prominent name in Indian cricket, recently announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket. This announcement has left fans wondering about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), especially concerning the 2025 season.

Dhawan’s IPL journey has been remarkable. He stands as the second-highest run-scorer in the league’s history, accumulating over 6,700 runs. His performances for teams like Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings have been noteworthy, with him leading the latter in the early stages of the 2024 season. However, a significant injury sidelined him for most of that season, and he later handed over captaincy duties to Sam Curran.

Currently, Dhawan is in the process of recovering from this injury and admits that he is not yet fully fit. This raises questions about his readiness to compete at the top level in the high-stakes environment of the IPL. He has expressed hope about his recovery but acknowledges that it’s a gradual process.

Looking ahead to IPL 2025, if Dhawan manages to regain full fitness, there’s a possibility he could return to the league. Even if Punjab Kings decide not to retain him, other franchises might be interested in acquiring such an experienced and capable player.

In summary, while Shikhar Dhawan has stepped away from international and domestic cricket, his future in the IPL remains uncertain but hopeful, contingent on his recovery and fitness levels. His illustrious career and potential comeback keep the cricket community eagerly watching.
