India’s Flag Bearers at the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony

In a fitting tribute to their contributions, Manu Bhaker and PR Sreejesh have been chosen as the flag bearers for India at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony. Manu Bhaker, who has displayed remarkable consistency throughout the games, secured two bronze medals in the 10 m shooting events. Her achievements have earned her the honor of representing the nation on this prestigious stage.

Joining her will be PR Sreejesh, the former Indian hockey team goalkeeper, who recently retired from international play. Sreejesh’s selection comes on the heels of the Indian hockey team’s commendable performance, where they clinched the bronze medal by defeating Spain 2-1. His inclusion as a flag bearer not only acknowledges his contributions to the sport but also celebrates his illustrious career spanning over two decades.

PR Sreejesh: The Emotional Choice

The decision to name PR Sreejesh as a joint flag bearer alongside Manu Bhaker was both strategic and emotional. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha emphasized the deep respect and admiration the IOA leadership has for Sreejesh’s dedication to Indian hockey. Sreejesh, who has been a pillar of strength for the national team, has now earned the opportunity to lead the nation in the closing moments of the Paris Olympics.

Usha further revealed that Neeraj Chopra, India’s Olympic gold medalist, was consulted regarding Sreejesh’s selection. Chopra, who holds Sreejesh in high regard, wholeheartedly supported the decision. His words, “Ma’am, even if you had not asked me, I would have suggested Sree Bhai’s name,” reflect the profound respect and camaraderie that exist within the Indian sports fraternity.
