Anurag Kashyap has named Chake De! India and Kabhi Haa Kabhie Naa as his favourite films in Shah Rukh Khan’s oeuvre. Will we see Anurag Kashyap to direct Shah Rukh Khan in a movie? The answer is most likely no, as stated by the filmmaker in an interview with Humans of Cinema. The filmmaker further explained why he said this, stating that it is the atmosphere and charm that his fans adore about him, which he would be unable to reproduce as a director.
Why Anurag Kashyap is not going to make any film with SRK?
During the interview, Anurag stated, “We are a country of hero worshippers. We lack many resources and have low self-esteem and confidence. We need heroes. Why do our films feature larger-than-life heroes? We are the only country where actors refuse to cover their faces while portraying superheroes. The masks would be so little because it is crucial to see their faces.”
Speaking on Shah Rukh and if he will collaborate on a film with him, he went on to say, “In this day and age of social media, I am intimidated of the fanbases of huge stars. Actors are typecast because their followers expect the same things from them over and over.
If it doesn’t happen, viewers will reject it, making even performers wary of trying new things. So it’s beyond my ability to cater to Shah Rukh Khan’s aura or enigma. If his film Fan had been successful, I could have said that I, too, had the courage to collaborate with him.
Shah Rukh had a blockbuster in 2023 with Pathaan, Jawaan, and Dunki. Meanwhile, Anurag premiered his latest picture, Kennedy, at the 2023 Cannes picture Festival. He also announced the cast of his next project, which will include Malayalam actor Joju George, who will make his Hindi cinema debut with it.
