From sci-fi adventures to action-packed thrillers and historical dramas, the Southern film industry is poised to win the box office with these films.

1. Kalki 2898 AD

Nag Ashwin wrote and directed Kalki 2898 AD, a mythical science fiction film in Telugu. Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, and Pasupathy appear in the film, which was produced by C. Aswani Dutt under the banner Vyjayanthi Movies. It was filmed in both Telugu and Hindi.

The film is set in 2898 AD, in a dismal world full of sin and calamity. The plot revolves around Kalki, a modern-day avatar of Lord Vishnu who is brought to life by the invocation of Ashwatthama. Kalki’s objective is to defend the Earth from his nemesis, Kaali, by employing superior technology, armor, and weapons. The film is slated to hit on June 27, 2024.

2. Indian 2

Shankar directed Indian 2, a Tamil action drama. After a long break, Kamal Haasan returns to reunite with legendary filmmaker Shankar on a sequel to their 1996 blockbuster, ‘Indian.’ Kamal Haasan made the formal announcement for the film during the grand finale of Bigg Boss Tamil. Indian 2 is a multilingual film produced in both Tamil and Telugu. Kajal Aggarwal portrays the female lead in the film. The movie will be released on July 12.

3. Pushpa 2: The Rule

Sukumar wrote and directed the film Pushpa 2: The Rule, a pan-Indian action crime thriller. The film’s principal actors are Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, with Sunil, Sai Pallavi, Prakash Raj, and others playing supporting roles. Mohanlal makes a memorable cameo appearance in the film.

4. Kanguva

Kanguva is a Tamil historical fantasy drama written and directed by Siruthai Siva. The film stars Suriya in the lead role, with Bollywood actress Disha Patani, comedian Yogi Babu, Bollywood actor Bobby Deol as the main antagonist along with many others in supporting roles. 

Devi Sri Prasad composed both the soundtrack and the background music. The cinematography is by Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, and the editing is done by Ruben Serve and Karthika Srinivas. The main fight scenes in the film were directed by Ram Laxman, Peter Hein, and Dragon Prakash. Chandra Bose wrote the lyrics for the film’s songs. The directors have announced that the film will be released on August 15.

5. Game Changer

Game Changer is an action film directed by Shankar and starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani. Supporting cast members include Anjali, Samuthirakani, S J Surya, Srikanth, and Sunil. S Thaman wrote the film’s music, S Thirunavukkarasu handled the cinematography, and Shameer Muhammed did the editing.

‘Game Changer’, produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations, is significant since it is the 50th film under the home production banner. This film is set to be released in 2024.

6. Kantara A Legend Chapter 1

Rishab Shetty wrote and directed Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, an action thriller film in Kannada. The film’s core cast includes Rishab Shetty and Sapthami Gowda. B Ajaneesh Loknath created the soundtrack, Arvind S Kashyap shot the cinematography, and Pratheek Shetty did the editing. Vijay Kiragandur produces the film under the banner Hombale Films. Kantara 2 is a prequel to the smash movie Kantara.

7 . Devara: NTR Jr and Janhvi Kapoor

Devara is a romantic action film written and directed by Koratala Siva. Sudhakar Mikkilineni and Nandamuri Kalyan Ram co-produced it. The film’s core cast includes Jr. NTR, Janhvi Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, and Prakash Raj. Anirudh Ravichander composed the film’s music. The film will be released on October 10, 2024.

8. The Greatest of All Time (GOAT)

The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) is a forthcoming Tamil action film directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by AGS Entertainment. Vijay and Meenakshi Chaudhary play the key roles in the film, which also stars Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Yogi Babu, Ajmal Ameer, Laila, Jayaram, Premgi, Mohan, and Vaibhav Reddy.

AGS Entertainment, produced by Archana Kalpathi, Kalpathi S Aghoram, Kalpathi S Ganesh, and Kalpathi S Suresh, is delivering this highly awaited film to theatres. Yuvan Shankar Raja created the music for ‘GOAT’. The film is set to be released in theatres on July 31, 2024. With its outstanding cast and enticing premise, ‘The Greatest Of All Time’ is sure to be a must-see for Tamil film fans.
