Apple is set to unveil a Calculator app for the iPad, a significant improvement over 14 years since the debut of the first tablet. The news comes from a source familiar with the topic. The iPadOS 18, the next version is said to have a built-in Calculator app suitable for all versions. Apple, according to a source with knowledge of its plans, will announce the upgrade at the WWDC developers’ convention opening keynote on June 10.

Calculator App Coming to Apple iPad

AppleInsider’s recent reports provide more details on the subject, revealing that the revamped Calculator app will also be available in macOS 15. The novel version also includes a resizable window, the capability to utilize the updated Notes app, and a sidebar with recent calculations and features. While these specifics have yet to be independently verified, speculation suggests that the updated Mac app may draw inspiration from its iPad counterpart.

Because the Calculator is such a basic and ubiquitous tool, the lack of an official Calculator app on the iPad has always baffled many and has been a popular talking point on social media. As a result, iPad users could only turn to various third-party calculator apps found on the App Store like PCalc and Calcbot.

In a conversation with popular tech reviewer Marques Brownlee in June 2020, Apple’s software engineering chief, Craig Federighi, admitted that the Cupertino firm has been late with providing a “great” calculator app for the iPad. Federighi explained that Apple just hadn’t been able to prioritize such a project before although he noted that it might happen down the line.

The anticipated launch of the new Calculator app designed for the iPad is one of the features that have finally made their appearance. The development of this native app is likely to optimize the processes for iPad users and make the experience even smoother. These anticipated moves are among the releases following the recent WWDC keynote. The initial iPadOS 18 beta was expected soon after the vent with the fully-tested version to become accessible around September. The user is excited to learn more about the new Calculator app and integrate it into further iPad use.
