Mahindra revolutionized the lifestyle off-road vehicle category in India with the introduction of the 3-Door Thar in 2020. In the midst of competition from Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny the Mahindra Thar continues to hold a position in its market segment. The upcoming Mahindra Thar Armada is anticipated to bring forth benchmarks upon its launch.
The Upcoming Mahindra Thar Armada
Recent inside information regarding the Mahindra Thar Armada has surfaced, revealing its approach to attracting an audience and boosting sales potential. The drivetrain options for the 5-Door Thar will be crucial in shaping its lineup and pricing strategy.
Presently Mahindra provides the 3-Door Thar with three engine choices; 1.5L Diesel, 2.0L Turbo Petrol, and 2.2L Diesel. Transmission selections include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The drivetrain options encompass 4X2 (RWD) 4X4 (AWD) without locking diff and 4X4 (AWD) with locking diff. However, initially, the Thar Armada will be introduced as a 4X4 model with the 4X2 variant planned for a release.
Drawing from Mahindra’s launches there are speculations that the debut of the Thar Armada might take place on August 15, 2024. Like the high-end version of the 3-Door Thar model, the top trim of the Thar Armada is expected to include a slip rear differential to enhance off-road performance. Furthermore, every version will include a 4X4 transfer case as standard upon release.
There is some doubt about whether the 1.5L Diesel engine will be part of the Mahindra Thar Armada series. Even though this engine works well with the Marazzo and has a ladder frame chassis its suitability, for the Thar Armada is still uncertain. The existing 2.0L Petrol and 2.2L Diesel engines, with potential minor performance enhancements, are expected to power the Thar Armada.
Externally, the Thar Armada will feature several design updates, including a revised rear wheel arch, a fixed metallic roof, new alloy wheels, and rear doors for added convenience. Interior upgrades will include a larger touchscreen, a fully digital instrument cluster, front and rear armrests, a push-button start, a new steering wheel, a single-pane sunroof, and rear AC vents.
