According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple sold between 160,000 and 180,000 Vision Pro devices over the course of the weekend, far exceeding his initial projections that the company would only have between 60,000 and 80,000 units available at launch. Kuo acknowledges that there may have been a slowdown in demand after the initial rush of headset purchases.

Kuo states that Vision Pro sold out immediately after the pre-order period opened. It should take five to seven weeks for the mixed reality headset to delivery after an order is placed.

Although shipment times did not change 48 hours after preorders began, Kuo suggested that fast sell-through and longer delivery dates should be seen as positive improvements. Kuo thinks that once the devoted Apple fans bought their devices, demand may have declined.

Although this seems like good news, Kuo noted that if shipping times don’t alter over the first 48 hours, there may be a sudden decline in demand once the die-hard supporters and heavy users have placed their pre-orders. As an example, “a steady increase in shipping times 24 to 48 hours after pre-orders open” would typically apply to iPhone orders. Naturally, though, the Vision Pro isn’t intended for the typical user in its current state, especially in light of the absence of many popular apps like Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube.

Additionally, Kuo observes that popular iPhone models that are pre-ordered also sell out immediately and that shipment dates typically increase from a few days to several weeks in a matter of hours. However, shipment times for iPhone models usually increase 24 to 48 hours after pre-orders begin, which is different from Vision Pro and suggests that demand continues even after the first sold-out.

500,000 Vision Pro units should be available for shipment from Apple this year, but Kuo notes that demand will be key because “Vision Pro is still a very niche product.”
