Victor Osimhen has put an end to speculation over his future for the foreseeable future by signing a new contract with Napoli. The striker was linked with a January exit, due to his contract expiring in the summer of 2025. But, he has now ensured that he will be staying and will become one of the best-paid players in the history of the club.
The new contract extends Osimhen’s stay for one year until 2026, and also includes a release clause worth in excess of €130 million. It is unclear as to when the clause becomes valid, but one could assume that the summer of 2024 might be the soonest.
Victor Osimhen renews contract with Napoli until 2026
This season, the Nigerian has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 12 Serie A games while scoring once in his four Champions League appearances. His presence up front has been vital to Napoli’s success in Serie A, and they have succeeded in keeping one of their best talents at the club.
Rumours of an exit were fuelled by issues off the pitch, including a social media incident between the club itself and Victor Osimhen. However, they have been ironed out and the African Player of the Year 2023 will now remain in blue for the second half of the season.
But even with the new contract, it is anybody’s guess whether he heads for an exit in the summer.
