Kia Sonet Facelift Set to Debut on December 14, Price Announcement in Early 2024

The forthcoming facelift of the popular sub-4m SUV, Kia Sonet, is scheduled to be revealed on December 14. While test mules have been observed internationally, the Indian version is anticipated to receive distinct updates. Following its unveiling, the prices for the Sonet facelift will be disclosed in early 2024.

The Upcoming Kia Sonet Facelift

Despite the existing model’s dynamic and appealing profile, Kia is implementing significant changes for the facelift. The front fascia will undergo a revamp with new DRLs and modifications to the headlamps. Both front and rear bumpers will see updates while retaining signature elements like the tiger nose grill design. The side profile will largely resemble the current model, except for a new set of alloy wheels. At the rear, the existing wraparound tail lamps will be replaced by new vertical units seamlessly connected with an LED lighting element, a design introduced with the Seltos facelift.

The interior of the Kia Sonet facelift will feature a refreshed dashboard and new switchgear for the HVAC system. Potential upgrades may be borrowed from other Kia and Hyundai models, such as the infotainment screen from the Seltos facelift and the digital instrument cluster from the Kia Carens and Hyundai Venue. The ambiance could be enhanced with a new choice for upholstery and interior themes.

Safety improvements will include standard 6-airbags across all trim levels, and the Sonet facelift will also incorporate Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), akin to its sibling, the Venue. The ADAS kit on the Venue encompasses forward collision warning, lane departure warning, forward collision avoidance assist, high beam assist, lane-keeping assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, and leading vehicle departure alert.

The engine options for the Kia Sonet facelift will remain consistent with the current model. These include a 1.2-liter MPi engine with 83 PS of maximum power and 115 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine generates 120 PS and 172 Nm, available with 6iMT and 7DCT transmission choices. The third engine option is a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 116 PS and 250 Nm, with transmission options of 6iMT and 6AT.

While the engine options remain the same, there is a possibility of reintroducing diesel manual for specific trims. With its updated aesthetics, enhanced feature list, and the inclusion of ADAS, the Sonet facelift is expected to generate robust sales and will continue to compete against models like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Maruti Fronx, Mahindra XUV300, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger. Slight price increases are anticipated for the Sonet facelift, with the current model priced between ₹7.79 lakh and ₹14.89 lakh.
