Afghanistan have qualified for the 2025 Champions Trophy after Bangladesh’s win over Sri Lanka in the 2023 World Cup. Their rise to the top tier of international cricket has been quite impressive to watch, and they are now confirmed as one of the top eight sides in the table this year at the World Cup.

The team also had a great chance to book their spot in the semifinal in their game against Australia, in an advantageous position at 91-7 with a target of 291. However, a miraculous innings from Glen Maxwell confirmed a last four spot for Australia instead, with the Afghans left shell shocked.

England vs Afghanistan

In spite of losing their game against Australia, Afghanistan still have an outside chance of making it to fourth place. Their final game of the World Cup group stage comes against South Africa, who have already qualified for the semifinals and are set to finish second.

The Afghans will be joined by India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand alongside hosts Pakistan, who qualified automatically.

England could miss out on the 2025 Champions Trophy following their disastrous campaign in India. They face competition from the Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh who are also hoping to finish 8th to make it to the major tournament two years later.
