After a long season of football, tonight is the business end of the 2019-20 season. Bayern Munich will take on Paris Saint-Germain today in Lisbon for the UEFA Champions League glory. Both the team are on the verge of making history as both of them are on course to win a treble after winning the league and cup in their respective countries.
Bayern Munich is in a dream form right now. They humiliated Barcelona and defeated Lyon quite comfortably in the last rounds. But Bayern’s defence was caught so many times in the counter-attacks while keeping a high defensive line. PSG’s front trio Neymar-Mbappe-Di Maria will surely try to use their pace to exploit the faults of Bayern’s defence.
Bayern’s Manager Hansi Flick is confident about their style of play. He said to the press: “In our games over the last 10 months we’ve always tried to impose our style on the opposition. We’ve always played with a high line and ultimately we’ve got results doing that so we won’t change too much.”
Flick said about German defender Jerome Boateng’s injury issue: “I hope Jerome will be fit. After training, we will debate how to go forward.”
“If we are able to produce our best performance, if we are all at 100 percent, we will be able to win”.
PSG are also ready to write their name in history today. Their manager Thomas Tuchel is respecting the Bayern’s experience of this high-voltage match. The PSG boss said: “It is a small advantage for Bayern that they are used as a club to playing these games. I accept that, but it is not a decisive advantage.”
World Cup winning PSG star Mbappe said: “This is exactly why I came here. I always said that I wanted to go down in my country’s history. (This) is another chance to do that”.
Only seven different clubs have won the historic treble [comprising of the European title, Domestic League and Domestic Cup] in the past, including Bayern Munich in 2013. Only Spanish side Barcelona has won two trebles in history. Can Bayern Munich join them today? Or it’s time for PSG to join the elite list?
